Matthias Mueller has visited Moscow to discuss the company’s perspectives on the Russian market
Moscow, February 8, 2017 — Matthias Mueller, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, held a working meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, they discussed the company’s perspectives on the Russian market. The Head of Volkswagen Group also visited an innovative showroom Audi City Moscow.

Matthias Mueller noted that the Volkswagen Group is committed to the Russian market and plans further development here: «We have longstanding relations with Russia, we started producing cars here more than 10 years ago. Our current investment reached 1.75 billion euros. We are happy with our cooperation and are pleased to have this opportunity today to discuss the automotive industry’s development in Russia».

Despite the difficult economic situation in the country Volkswagen Group did not stop to develop its business — the production of engines in Kaluga was launched in 2015 and automotive production was expanded in 2016.
In 2016, the company’s sales in Russia reached 157,000 vehicles. At the company’s manufacturing sites 147,000 vehicles were produced: 110 000 cars — at the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga, and 37 000 vehicles — at the production site in Nizhny Novgorod.
