Volkswagen Group Rus has launched the production of the new Tiguan in Kaluga

Kaluga/Moscow, November 21, 2016 — The full-cycle production of the new Tiguan was launched at the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga. The new Tiguan is the first sport utility vehicle based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB), and it sets new standards in design, comfort and functionality.
The new Tiguan became the first Volkswagen SUV from Kaluga built on the modular transverse matrix platform (MQB — Modularer Querbaukasten). Identical installation position of the engine, standardization of connections and systems and small dimensions are the advantages of the modular strategy that fully fulfil the cost savings potential and significantly improve the efficiency, and also give designers more creative freedom and allow to achieve the dynamic and harmonious proportions.
To produce the second generation of the Tiguan, the company extended its production facilities in Kaluga by building and equipping a new body shop with total area of 12 000 sq.m. Volkswagen Group’s total investment in the production of the new Tiguan will reach 180 million Euro, the investments have already allowed to develop the infrastructure at the plant, to build a new body shop, to upgrade paint shop and assembly shops. The extended production facility will provide additional 110 jobs. Volkswagen Group has also invested in the development and training of the local suppliers of production tools and car components to align their products with the high quality standards of the company.
The production of the new Tiguan includes body welding, painting and assembly of the vehicle. For the first time at the plant in Kaluga a panoramic roof will be installed in the local vehicle. A laser technology and innovative feed systems, e.g. working under its own weight feed system of body bottoms for automatized welding, will also be applied in the production process.

The design and body proportions of the new Tiguan became more dynamic, the car got a special off-road package, LEDs in the headlights- and backlights, panoramic roof. The weight of the model is less than its predecessor by 50 kg, and the space in the cabin and the luggage compartment increased. The new Tiguan will be equipped with gasoline and diesel engines with output from 125 to 220 hp. Depending on the version, the new Tiguan will get the 4MOTION transmission or front-wheel drive. Special cold climate options include the windscreen heating, steering wheel heating, front and rear seats heating.
Available innovations include the digital instrument panel Active Info Display and App-Connect possibilities of synchronization with smartphones. The basic version of the new Tiguan is already equipped with Front Assist, City Emergency Braking function and Multicollision Brake System and as an option the vehicles can be equipped with Adaptive Cruise-Control, which provide perfect comfort, dynamics and safety. The new ERA GLONASS system is also included into all versions.
The first cars will be delivered to the dealers in Russia in the 1st quarter of 2017.
About the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga
The plant of Volkswagen Group Rus is located in the industrial park Grabtsevo in Kaluga, approximately 170 km southwest of Moscow. It includes the automobile plant of Volkswagen and Skoda and the 1.6 MPI engine production (EA211 Series).
Nowadays Volkswagen Tiguan, Volkswagen Polo and ŠKODA Rapid are being produced at the plant in Kaluga, its maximum capacity is 225 000 vehicles per year. Maximum capacity of the new modern engine plant in Kaluga is 150 000 engines per year.
With total investment of 1,18 Bln. Euros in the construction and modernization of the plant in Kaluga, Volkswagen Group is one of the largest foreign investors in the Russian automotive industry.
